There are several different variations of play we have played.
Some type of games many others have also played, some we have
made up ourselves, but are also probably played elsewhere. These
game types include Team Deathmatch, Speed Ball, No Limit Free
for All, Capture the Flag, Hostage Rescue, Predator, Predators,
Fugitive, and Duels.
One of the most common games played amongst paintballers. Two
equal teams are created and fight till one entire team has been
eliminated. We play by all the basic rules in this game. One
team goes out into the field first and sets up their position.
The other team then moves in after five minutes, or whenever
the opposing team is ready. The game can last anywhere from
fifteen minutes to over two hours depending on the field you
play in. The fields can be rather large at times, and if the
teams come down to 1vs1 it can take a very long time.
Speed Ball:
The other common type of game play in paintball. Once again
two equal teams are created and fight till one of the teams
is completely eliminated. The big difference between this and
team deathmatch is the field is just that...a field. No trees,
no natural cover. Instead several barriers are placed on the
field, such as big air filled balloons, bunkers, or anything
else to act as a barrier. The game is generally extremely face-paced
due to the small field size.
No Limit Free for All (FFA):
This game is usually played at the end of our day, you'll find
out why in a few seconds. As the name implies, the game is played
every man for himself. No limit means you go out when you want
to. You can get shot ten times and still remain in if you are
man enough to take the pain. This isn't a serious game, its
just something to consume the last of our supplies to close
out the day. Though it may seem like it would take awhile, it
usually is very quick due to the rapid fire and quick consumption
of ammo and co2.
Capture the Flag (CTF):
Capture the flag is a very strategic game. Two equal teams are
created and each set themselves up a base. Inside each base
is the flag. To win the match the opposing team must capture
the enemy flag and bring it back to their own flag without being
shot. This requires a lot of teamwork since each team needs
an offense and a defense to capture the enemy flag while defending
their own. However, there is another version of CTF that is
played. In the other version, a single flag is placed in the
middle of the field. To win, a team must grab the flag and take
it to the enemy base to capture it.
Hostage Rescue:
For those of you who have played Counter-Strike before, then
you know very well what Hostage Rescue is. You take 2-4 people
and set them as hostages in the defending team's base. The opposing
team must get in and rescue the hostages back to the safety
of their base without being shot. The hostages do not carry
guns and cannot kill the enemy. They also must stay near the
rescue team at all times.
Predator:
Another very popular game among paintballers. Predator is a
1vsall type of game, except the one gets some special abilties.
First, to kill the one you must hit him above the shoulders,
such as the mask. Second, if the one hits one of the people
from the opposing team, that person then joins the predator
team. This game can swing either way. If the predator gets enough
kills then his team will out number the opposing team, and his
team can only be killed by headshots. If the predator fails
to hit anybody in the beginning of the game, he can quickly
find himself surrounded by multiple people and pelted to death
by paintballs.
Predators:
Currently a game in progress. However, here is somewhat how
it goes. Three equal teams are made. One of these teams is the
predators. Like Predator, they must be killed with headshots,
and can convert others to their team by killing them. You're
probably saying well if one predator can take an entire team
in the other game, then what is the point of having multiple
predators? Simple, they have no guns. It may sound crazy, but
if played in the right area and the right strategies are used,
it can be done. The reason for having two other teams with guns
is so it isn't a hunt and charge fest. The two teams must also
watch out for each other while hunting the predators.
Fugitive:
One of the most intense games in paintball in my opinion. Once
again the teams are set to 1vsall. The fugitive, being the one,
does not have a gun, everybody else does. The fugitive must
survive for a set amount of time (usually fifteen minutes) without
being shot. If he can accomplish this, he wins. The fugitive
cannot eliminate other players in any way, he can only run and
hide. The reason for such intensity is the fact that the hunting
team doesn't have to watch for enemy fire. They can freely run
as quickly as possible, giving them quite an advantage.
Duels:
Old western style. 1vs1 with a crowd to cheer on. Each player
goes back to back and takes ten paces in opposite direction of
each other. After reaching the tenth step they stop and wait for
the "ref" to yell "DRAW!" The moment they
hear that, both players must turn around and try to hit their
enemy before being hit themselves. These games are quick, but
fun as hell.
